Tasty Tuesday – Chocolate Bliss, How Sweet It Is!

Hi Friends! Its another Tasty Tuesday! And How Sweet It Is!

Today we have a super sweet and luscious chocolate dessert that sits atop an Oreo cookie base. Its delicious and satisfies the chocolate lover! I call it Chocolate Bliss!

But first I want to thank my dear friend Maribeth Schmidt who once again provided amazing photos for this recipe! She is so talented and has such a creative way of presenting the dishes. If you would like to see more of her work, you can contact her at Maribeth Schmidt Photography.

And now, on with today’s recipe,

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 1/2 packs of Thin Oreos
  • 1 8 oz bar of cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup of confectioners (powdered) sugar
  • 1 5.9 oz Box of Jello Instant Chocolate pudding
  • 3 Cups of Cold Milk
  • 1 large tub of Cool Whip
  • 1 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips

Layer 1: Oreo Cookie Crust Preheat Oven to 375°; While oven is preheating, put a stick of butter in a 9 x 13 and place in oven to melt the butter. When melted, remove from oven and set on stove top.

Place 1 entire pack and half of another pack of Thin Oreos in a large zip lock bag, let air out and seal. Using a rolling pin, crush the Oreos. Notice, there is one strip of Oreos left. This is nourishment while you work.

You want them broken up enough they will work with the butter to form a crust.

Add the crushed cookies to the melted butter.

Toss the cookie crumbs until glossy and press into the pan. Place in the oven and bake for 8 minutes.

Layer 2: Place softened cream cheese in a bowl, and mix.

Add in the confectioner’s sugar and beat until smooth.

Fold in half of the Cool Whip.

Carefully dollop on top of the cookie crust.

Gently spread with a spatula or butter knife. Be patient and gentle so as not to pull up the cookie crust. Sometimes I give it a pep talk.

Layer 3: Now mix your chocolate pudding and milk together according to pkg directions.

Oh yeah.

Dollop the pudding on top of the cream cheese layer.

This layer spreads a little easier. It looks like a chocolate pond!

Layer 4: Just finish it off with a nice final layer of Cool Whip!

And sprinkle on some mini chocolate chips!

Pardon et moi, but could we have a few more, please?

Much better! Now let it chill for at least 30 minutes or until you are ready to serve.

Let’s serve it up!

Oh my word!

Is this legal? My diet can wait…

I mean… look at those luscious layers! From top to bottom its chocolate bliss!

Where are my manners? Here is a piece for you!

A nice big piece!

Oh I really shouldn’t, but…

This is nice! We should do this more often!

There is something so delightful about desserts made with chocolate pudding! Its like the ultimate decadent comfort dessert! As a little girl, my mom would make chocolate pudding for dessert as a special treat for us. There were six of us kids and of course my mom and dad, so when it was time for dessert, 8 dessert parfait cups with warm chocolate pudding would make its way to our table (where we may or may not have finished our peas!) But oh how good that chocolate pudding was! You could smell the chocolate in the air! And it was such a thrill! By the way, thanks Mom for the chocolate pudding and a million other things, I love you!

It makes a great dish for a potluck. Or a great dish for a Sunday afternoon! Add coffee and you are golden! I’ve seen variations of this same recipe and some people call it “Chocolate Lasagna” (nice name!) or 4 layer dessert, Oreo Delight, etc. You could tweak it by switching your flavor of pudding to white chocolate. Or you could double the layer of pudding so its extra thick. No matter what, you can honestly say, “How Sweet It Is”!

I don’t know if you remember the Jackie Gleason Show, but he would use that phrase “How Sweet It Is”! Of course, I was just a child… no really! But it was a sweet happy memory because I remember the show making my parents laugh. As a child, I loved those moments! I love trying to create sweet memories like that now.

I hope you have a great week! I’ll be back Friday for another Fashion Friday!

Love Always,

Amy

  1. this looks great, Amy. p.s. sometimes I would be shocked to find a handful of peas wrapped up in a napkin on my lap.

  2. Oh WOW! I just seen the first picture and you got me hungry! The cake looks amazing! I might do it for the weekend cuz I am in love with it now!

  3. Wow! Just wow! What an amazing recipe. I’ve been looking for a dessert to take to an upcoming event, maybe this could be the one. Probably should try it first before I make it for others though, right? 😉

    1. Goodness! Thank you for the kind words! The good thing about trying it first is you can decide if you want to tweak it at all… there are so many great products out there, you could swap out and try a different pudding flavor, etc. Plus, when ever I take a dish somewhere, the people in my house get frustrated because they didn’t get any of it 🙂 so often I end up making desserts twice, LOL! Have a great day!

  4. Oh my goodness, this looks amazing! This is my favorite kind of dessert, I love different textures and layers. Pinning immediately even if I just make it for myself for an after dinner treat this weekend 😉

  5. Oh my goodness, yum! You are welcome to swing by my work and drop off a slice of deliciousness this afternoon! I’m just kidding, but now I want it, and have none of those ingredients around. I might have to go shopping on the way home.

    1. Oh I know how that is! I had to work late this evening and I knew my husband had made blt’s earlier and I was just hoping there was some bacon left for one more! And there was! Win! Thanks for stopping by! Have a fantastic week!

  6. This looks so tasty! I too love any desert centered around chocolate pudding!

  7. You know, I don’t usually go in for recipes that involve a lot of packaged ingredients like Cool Whip or pudding mix. But this just looks so good! I totally pinned the recipe so I can make it with my girls 😀

  8. This looks so yummy! (Your friend really does do a fabulous job with the pictures.) Even though I can’t partake, my youngest daughter, who loves to bake, is especially fond of anything with Oreos. I’ll have to pass this along…she’ll love it!

  9. Yummm. Thanks for this recipe. I love the idea of bringing this tasty treat to a potluck. I also love all the photos to make recreating your recipe easy. ❤️ Love it!

  10. This looks so delicious, but I don’t like Oreo cookies. I wonder if you could substitute them for graham crackers? I might have to try it!

  11. Oh my goodness, this looks so delicious, I want some right now! So happy to find your blog Amy – I feel like I’ve been here before, but my brain fails me! I don’t know if you do link ups, but I’m also a contributor to The Blended Blog, and we do a recipe link up on Tuesdays. We’d love to have you join! Have a great weekend!
