Fashion Friday and a Slice of Life

Friday! You’re back! Woo hoo! I thought you’d never get here!

Its been a busy week, (in a busy season of life) so weekends are particularly sweet! And as I type, I’m holding a fresh ground cup of coffee, with beans that were labeled “Butterscotch” at the grocery store. (I know some of you just cringed, I respect that) But if you like those rich flavored coffees, it is bliss!

Thank you to Troy this week for helping me with my pictures, it was pretty cold out there and I really appreciate his help and his patience with these photos. He always has such a creative perspective, and that means so much to me.

And on to the fashion. First of all, I just read that Nordstrom is going to be selling some of the “Anthropologie for the Home” line starting as of March 19! Anthropologie has such beautiful things both in fashion and in linens and items for the home. It says on the Nordstrom front page, “Bedding, serveware and home decor will be available outside Anthropologie’s own doors exclusively at Nordstrom”. It looks like it will be available online and 15 stores will have items in store. So that is pretty cool!

Now on to this week’s fashion.

First, I have this fun colorblock windbreaker jacket by Topshop.

Its light weight and super comfortable, and it has this cute splash of red on the sides which makes it feel special!

And I like special!

And next I have this really fun kimono to share. I haven’t shared a kimono since last summer, so I went looking and found this really cute one that I love!

This kimono was marketed as a bathing suit coverup that would also work great for casual wear. The flowers are all embroidered.

I tried it with a white tee, and it does look really cute, but I liked it even better with a black tee.

This arrived less than a week ago, and it sold out already. I searched and found another one, through Forever 21, which is simply lovely!

Just a moment with my dear sweet Kasey.

And finally, I have this cute black fleece jacket by Volcom, and its a keeper!

I love the white zip accents on this jacket, and the zipper is actually a rose gold. So often, the outfits I put together include black and or white, and this jacket is about to be the “go to jacket for a million things. Its super soft. And it has a drawstring hood, and split kangaroo pockets in the front. I’m a happy camper with this jacket!

You can also see I am wearing my #HowBoldAreYou Tee again from Chico’s. This is such a fun statement tee and I love the message it sends! And even better still, Chico’s is running a sale for 30% off your entire purchase now through March 18 (use promo code 79537)! And I was just on their site and they are running a contest called the #HowBoldAreYou contest where you submit a photo, tell them what makes you bold, and they take you through a few steps and the winner gets a $1,000 gift card to Chico’s! Yaaasss! So are we bold enough? I think so!

How bold am I? Bold enough to wear red Adidas sneakers and love it! They are super comfortable, by the way, and I saw they also come in purple, so if you love purple, go get ’em!

Also, I am carrying my new Ava Backpack from Stella & Dot. Backpacks are now a really fun new addition to handbag departments everywhere, from the tiniest to full size. I would say this is medium in size. And I love the fun stripes on it! I can put my tablet and wallet and all my essentials, and maybe even a small lunch in there!

You can sling it over one shoulder, both shoulders or use the little handle at the top and just tote it along! The straps are adjustable, and the hardware is silver and absolutely gorgeous! I read an article by a woman who said she switched over totally to using backpacks because she made the switch to biking everywhere. That is kind of cool! Maybe I should rethink my transportation a bit!

One thing I love about the daylight savings time is that we now have daylight for an hour longer in the evening. This is the perfect “nudge” to get out there and do something even after a long day! Last night, Troy and I were both pretty tired, he had spent the afternoon in the dentist chair (we all know how that will zap the stuffin’s out of you!) And I had completed a pretty long day at work. We both were sunken into the cozy furniture and tempted to stay there till we crawled up to bed.

But the sun was still out. And we pulled out the “Remember to Live” crowbar and pried ourselves out of the furniture and out of the house to get some fresh air. It was so good for us! And exhilarating! And fun! We were talking about it, and its kind of like moving from defense to offense. Time can slip through your fingers like water, and if all you are doing is working, rest and recovery, then you are missing what life is all about… the Living! Even if its only 15-30 minutes a day of doing something you love! And I felt so much better last night after having gotten out… I think I felt better than if I had stayed on the couch all evening!

You don’t need to have a lot of money. You don’t have to have perfect health. Even when you are going through great trials in life, its important to push pause and get out for a reminder of the good and beautiful things in life. There is enough time in each day that you can sneak a slice of life for yourself. And this is not a selfish thing, or anything to feel guilty about. This is for your health, body, mind and soul! This helps you be the best you you can be! It refills you!

And of course weekends were made for this sort of thing! And as the weather gets warmer and the days longer it makes it easier and easier to get out there and enjoy life! Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge, maybe a friend to say, “Come on, lets just go for a drive” or maybe you could be that friend! These are the jewels in life!

I hope you have some golden moments in your weekend! You are so precious, and I hope you get to smile and laugh and breathe fresh air and enjoy some great food and fun this weekend! I’ve got my red shoes on and the sun is shining, so its looking pretty good for me!

Take care, my friend!

Love Always,

Amy

  1. First of all, love your message. Owing and running our own business, by the time the weekend comes around, my husband and I are worn out. But we’ve made it a goal to get out and try new things, and it’s been wonderful! Great outfits – I’ve never tried TopShop, and I love those red sneakers! Have a great weekend!

This is so true!! And I love that you wrote it…
As for the daylight saving – I wish they just abandoned that concept altogether lol!

  10. I’m a big fan of pairing black and white with an accent color, especially with red. The Adidas look great. Also really loving that kimono. Great choices.
