Fashion Friday and Standing on the Precipice

Hi friends! I am so excited that this weekend is finally here! How about you? Do you have something fun on the agenda? Or maybe a nice mellow weekend?

I want to start by thanking my son Jake for helping me with pictures this week. He is so busy these days, and yet he still makes time for me. We actually have a blast when we are together. Jake is studying photography and film. If you would like to see more of his work or to follow him on Instagram, you can find him @jacob.kennedy21.

Ok, we are going straight to autumn sweaters this week! We are full on into “sweater weather”, (try saying that 3 times really fast!) I happen to love “sweater weather” and all kinds of sweaters. So I tried 3 different styles this week, and for all three, I kept the same boots, jeans and turtleneck.

This first piece is by Ralph Lauren, through Lord & Taylor, a plaid poncho cardigan.

The plaid on this is designed so it is reversible.

My bag is a faux leather satchel by Sondra Roberts.

Next I have a longer cardigan by Press.

The sweater is an eye catching jacquard with large front pockets.

My bag is one I purchased on sale this year by Rebecca Minkoff, the Blythe small convertible hobo.

I love the metal brads on the sides and strap. And of course I love that it is red!

Finally, I’m sharing a vibrant buffalo check cardigan by BlankNYC.

The colors are so bright, I just love it!

I also love the large dark buttons on it.

And of course the large pockets! I actually fit my cell phone on those pockets quite easily.

There is just something about buffalo plaid that says “autumn”! This also is offered in a black and white plaid option. But you know how I love red!

Well, I have a shorter blog this week because I am preparing to head off on an adventure bright and early in the morning! My sister Stacey and I are heading to Los Angeles for an event called “Fierce Con”, put on by Catherine Grace O’Connell of the Forever Fierce Revolution, a Facebook community of almost 6,000 women who are in midlife and beyond. This event is about connecting with other women in the community. There will be a dinner party Friday night. Then on Saturday, there are several “chats” by people who specialize in a host of different topics. And going out Saturday night. Then on Sunday, a brunch. But my number one reason for going to this event is to meet these women. Many I have been chatting with in this community for over a year.

Afterward, Stacey and I wanted to sneak in a couple extra days since neither of us have really had much of a chance to explore California. So we are taking a quick drive up to Santa Barbara for an evening and then winding our way back to Los Angeles.

I feel like I am standing on the precipice of the adventure of a lifetime! I have this tremendous feeling of excitement! I am so looking forward to this adventure! It’s a long way from Michigan! I’m just a little bit nervous, but honestly I’m so excited to be there and hang out with these women! They are coming from as far as New Zealand! I told one of the women in the community I wish there was a large sectional sofa big enough to hold all of us and we could just hang out!

I’ve never done something like this before, which in part makes it so exciting! It’s only my third time away from my immediate family. Last year I went to Chicago with my sisters Susan and Stacey, and several nieces. And then a few weeks later, I went to New York City with my sister in law Hannah. Both of these trips were amazing! And I will never forget them.

But this is a horse of a different color! And you know what? I couldn’t be more excited! We are going to meet so many new people, and see sunny California! The excitement and joy far outweigh any anxiety I might have about the trip.

So tonight I packed my suitcase… and unpacked and repacked. I was trying to “edit” the pack. To cut back to only the things I need, (after all I’m going to be hauling the luggage!) Even the packing got me excited about the trip!

I find as i get older that the more you take a chance and try things, the more confidence you have to try even more! And it’s so energizing and thrilling to put on your adventure cap and set out to a new place! I highly recommend it! I’ll keep you posted on how its going.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

I’ll see you next Tuesday for another Tasty Tuesday!

Love Always,

Amy
