Super Easy Apple Crumble

Hello, Friends! Our autumn has been spectacular here in Michigan! And in keeping with the season, I wanted to share an easy apple dessert recipe, and friends, nothing is easier than this tasty recipe for Apple Crumble! If you like warm buttery apple desserts with a kiss of cinnamon, this is the dessert for you!

You can make this with your own favorite apples or you can use the super fast easy way, using 2 cans of apple pie filling. That would make this super duper easy- and this is a judgement-free zone! So keep that in mind, I guarantee no one will complain! But for mine, I used 7 honey crisp apples. And, well, it was like a warm and cinnamony plate of paradise!

And without further ado, let’s begin!

Ingredients:

  • 7 apples peeled, cored, sliced (I used honey crisp, but you can use whatever kind you like)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup pecans (rough chop) **Optional**
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • dash of salt
  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter

Preheat oven to 350°.

Grease a 9×13 pan with butter.

Peel, core and slice 7 apples of your choice. By the way, that little peeler is by OXO and it is fantastic!

Take the half lemon and gently squeeze some juice over the pieces of apple and stir to coat. This is to keep the apples from turning brown.

Add in your brown sugar, regular sugar and pecans – remember you can skip the pecans if you don’t like them.

Add your cinnamon and vanilla and a dash of salt.

Stir together to coat the apples. This is already starting to smell amazing!

Pour the apples into your buttered 9×13 dish.

Open up that cake mix and sprinkle over the top of your apples… the whole box.

Now melt your 1 1/2 sticks of butter and carefully drizzle over the entire pan, trying to get as much of the cake mix wet with the butter as possible.

And put this incredible concoction in the oven! And wait… for about 50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the apples are warm and tender. It is going to smell heavenly! And voila! It is done! Notice how it kind of caramelized around the edges? It was bubbling when I took it out of the oven! (For those of you who follow this blog on Instagram, I actually added a video of it bubbling… it’s ridiculous!)

Let’s serve it up! Now, this dessert simply begs for a scoop of vanilla ice cream, so you may want to add that to your shopping list!

It’s going fast!

Pecans, fresh baked apples in brown sugar goodness with a buttery crumb topping!

Perfect for having friends over!

I can’t even put into words just how delicious this is! It’s like having a plate of sweet warm nostalgia served with the wafting of juicy baked apples and cinnamon! Outside the chilly breeze of October brings us in with rosy cheeks and hungry tummies! But inside, your house feels so cozy! There is a feeling of love, of hearth and home. And as you look at each glowing face, you see a grin and sparkle in their eyes because everyone knows these are some of the best moments in life. This is right. This is sweet. This is perfection. And this beautiful moment can be your gift to the ones you love!

Have a fantastic week, my friend!

I’ll be back this weekend with another post!

Love Always,

  1. I will try this today with the 1/2 Peck of McIntosh apples I got from Bushes last week. Nobody will just eat a plain apple so I need to dress them up a bit and this seems like a perfect way to do it!!!

  2. I’ve just pinned this delicious recipe. My recipe from my Mom is topped with Bisquick. Now, I’m looking forward to trying it with your yellow cake mix.

    Thanks,

  3. Yummy! I always make an apple pie when we get our first cool snap of fall weather. I might try this instead. On a side note, I’ve had an Oxo peeler like yours for years now. It’s indestructible and still works like a charm.

  4. The addition of the yellow cake mix really makes this apple crumble seen very unique, Amy, and I’ll bet it tastes fantastic. Also loved your description of it (“… a plate of sweet warm nostalgia …”) … makes me want to go make a batch right now!
