Hi Friends! It’s another Tasty Tuesday and we have a super tasty dish for all your summer potlucks and barbecues! Million Dollar Baked Beans! My husband says they are a meal in themselves! One of the best side dishes you could ever take to a barbecue! This recipe is a twist on a recipe my husband Troy’s mom, Joyce Kennedy has made over the years. It’s always a winner, so without further ado, lets get cookin!
1/2 pound sliced bacon
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion diced
1 can butter beans, drained
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 (15 1/2 oz) can pork and beans, drained slightly
Cook your bacon until crispy (we cook bacon in the oven)
Brown up the ground beef
Add in the onions and stir, cook until the onions are translucent.
Drain the drippings.
Once the bacon is ready,
Chop it up.
Now add all the ingredients together in a crockpot. The beans… note the butter and kidney beans should be drained, and the pork and beans drained slightly.
The sugars and catsup and mustard.
Add in the ground beef and the bacon.
Stir and heat crockpot to low and cover for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally
(note if you prefer, you could bake them for an hour at 350°) And Voila!
These beans are so flavorful, and so hearty! Your guests will feel totally spoiled!
These are a favorite around here.
Ok… we’ve waited long enough! Let’s eat!
Oh yeah, wait there is still a little room on my plate.
Perfect! Do these beans look savory or what?
Oh! I better save room for dessert!
Right after seconds! Oh where are my manners? Won’t you join me?
We have plenty of everything!
If you want to make someone feel like a million dollars, why not make them some million dollar beans?
My son was talking about the beans today. He loves that there is so much variety in the dish! You have 3 different kinds of beans! You have bacon! You have ground beef! Onions! Brown sugar! Worcestershire sauce! Molasses! Catsup! On and on! And all these very different flavors meld together to something exquisitely delicious! A real treat!
It reminds me of how people are all so different! Each one made with characteristics, passions, likes and dislikes, and thoughts as unique as their fingerprints! And yet when we come together, with all of our differences, but with hearts that hold all of humanity precious and dear, well its better than a million dollars!
Where I work, we have people that are great at organization. We have people that always have new ideas. We have people that are very artistic. We have people that have fantastic relational skills. We have people who excel in the tech area. So many different types of people. And you know what? I am so glad we do! Because that is what makes our office strong!
When you think of the world and how every human born is one of a kind, indeed you are one of a kind! And this world is stronger with each and every person coming to the table. Like a symphony or a beautiful choir. We need to hear the song of each person, coming together in beautiful harmony. Do you remember that funny skit on Saturday night live when the music producer kept saying, “We need more cowbell!” Well, we need to hear from you too! You have beautiful qualities to share with this world, and its just not the same without you! We need more of you! So be bold and come to the table with all that makes you uniquely you! Like these Million Dollar Beans, you make this world an exquisite feast!
I hope the rest of your week is simply wonderful!
I’ll be back Friday for another Fashion Friday!
